At the Freidis Rehabilitation and Disable Centre (FRDC), we believe that everyone deserves a safe and accessible place to call home. In partnership with the Denny Wilford Foundation, we are proud to share the progress of our latest project: the construction and renovation of homes for children with disabilities and vulnerable families across Northern Region.
Spotlight: A New Lease on Life for Akuny Pamella
In Lira City, we met Akuny Pamella, a resilient 34-year-old woman facing immense physical challenges. Pamella lives with paralysis in her hands, speech impairment, and moves by crawling. Before our intervention, her environment was a constant barrier to her independence.
To support Pamella, FRDC and the Denny Wilford Foundation undertook extensive renovations to her home:
Safety & Accessibility: We constructed a dedicated walkway to her toilet and shelter.
Improved Mobility: Her entire "rotational area" (the space where she moves most) was leveled, piled, and cemented, allowing her to move easily and safely within her surroundings.
Better Living Conditions: Her kitchen and toilet were fully plastered to improve hygiene and durability.
A Holistic Strategy for Sustainable Support
This project is more than just bricks and mortar; it is a sustainable strategy designed to restore hope. The Denny Wilford Foundation's mission goes beyond housing to ensure the daily needs of our beneficiaries are met.
In addition to home renovations, our beneficiaries receive essential life support, including:
Personal Care: Distribution of clothes, soap, mattresses, and bedsheets.
Nutrition: Essential food items and cooking ingredients.
Education & Stability: Financial support for house rent, school fees, books, and other scholastic materials.
Through these combined efforts, we are not just building houses—we are building a foundation for a better future.
